Updated Floor Rules

As we’ve done in past years, we have updated the floor rules for the competitive season. There aren’t any changes to the rules for tournaments, in fact, all changes are confined to page 9…

Oh Athame, we hardly knew ye…

We aren’t sure how many of you will get that reference, but to explain further, if you check the updated list of banned D&D Miniatures in Standard tournaments, you will find three humanoid races represented; Human, Elf and Athame.

The banned list has been expanded for good reason. The Guild vision of DDM is a back and forth duel in which both players act. We take care to regulate which figures are fun as controllers, and monitor which might go too far. On the one hand, we don’t necessarily think the Witchknife goes too far. On the other (more thematic) hand, we like the idea of carrying some common keywords within warbands, and perhaps even seeing swarm warbands again. In addition, as befits the athames history, it’s pretty well univerally hated by the player base. However, perhaps more important than these considerations, we’d really like to foster a wide-open metagame with lots of warband building choices for the upcoming season, filled with the promise of engaging games that don’t end after one turn. For this reason, we need also to say goodbye to the Delver Sergeant, at least temporarily.

Hopefully, they can all come back soon. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that there have been communications back and forth on how to bring back the Eternal Blade, but for now she needs to stay on the banned list, too.

Good luck in the qualifiers leading up to the big event at GenCon 2010!

What is so bad about the Delver Sergeant? I’ve used him in games before and we didn’t run into any problems with him. Why not just release new stat cards for these banned creatures that fix what is wrong with them instead of banning them?

Disgusting!
Frankly I think you (guild) should have a smarter idea to ban the game pieces.
Why not use simple corrections in the statistics of the creatures, make a new card and put here to print? (An ex. Delver would be to have only one per band, the stun Withknife could not save ends or dazed with save ends)
Rather than ban was correct some parts could never see the game (ex. Hydra, Ascendent of Hellsword, Large White Dragon among others)

Thank you for the Floor Rules Update.

I am not happy about the banning of these two figures. It really stinks. Especially out of the blue like this.

And on top of this, no unbanning or a revised Eternal Blade.

So now we have 3 banned figures.

Thanks for your comments. We, just like you, want to play with all our pieces too. And because of that, we are already discussing bringing back the pieces that are currently on the banned list (in one form or another).

Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to fully test the ideas we have on bringing them back, to see if they work. We also did not want a single tactic that dominates the entire qualifier season. So we decided to add them to the ban list, until we can give you a more permanent solution.

well you guys are the experts here so…
it just feels like the game is loosing its teeth.

I guess that the new stats from Delver Sargeant and witchknife are so slow. I guess that the new stats must be released before may ends.
