DDM 'Reprint' Miniatures: new Heroscape miniatures with smaller bases

A few months ago, Megan Smith put together an outstanding article on how to rebase your heroscape miniatures. It was a such a masterful article, that we didn’t have the heart to tell her that this was coming. Indeed, many others protested our requirement to rebase the ‘scape minis onto D&D Miniatures-friendly bases, and we unfortunately had to keep mum on this issue due to the our professional obligations to Wizards of the Coast.

As you can see in the text of this preview for Wave D2, the new wave of medium and small miniatures will fit on a nice, map-friendly 25mm base. This means that Organized Play will not require require rebasing of any of the the next wave of medium and smaller miniatures to be legal for play. Prior to GenCon, we’ll do a quick update to the floor rules to reflect this.

Of course, the large miniatures in this set will still present a problem, as you can see by the Iron Golem miniature. Understandably, we still have to rely on the elegant instruction of Ms. Smith. Indeed, we are certainly lucky to have her.

That said, for those of you, like me, who are, let us say, “challenged” by having to execute a modification, remember it is also perfectly acceptable to attach a ~50mm (2 inch) diameter base of any material, even simple black card stock, to the bottom of a large Heroscape miniature. As long as the Heroscape base is positioned diagonally so as to be accommodated within the 2×2 square, and the affixed round base makes it clear which squares the large is occupying, OP is happy. Just make certain to have the card that matches the sculpt… and that goes for the medium and smaller miniatures as well.

The release of the Heroscape set, with reprinted D&D Miniatures is just a few weeks away, and previews have already started over at heroscapers.com. Are you interested to see which sculpts will be re-released? Well, here are the clues that we have, and I will leave you with. On top of that, we’ll also update this article with the direct links to the pictures of previews, once they are released!

As always, Peter Lee of Wizards of the Coast picked some dynamite sculpts to redo for the series, and will include a mix of newer and older sculpts.

Throw you guesses down below. If you happen to hit enough right, I’ll find something in the goodie bag to send to you (after we can confirm, of course).
