GenCon Treats

Gencon saw the release of four different promotional item cards. While these cards may be included in a future set, I can't see any reason not to release them for play right now.

In keeping with the Decadence set, these cards may bear somewhat familiar names. Its been mentioned that some of these items are fairly powerful, and I suppose I tend to agree. In the right circumstances, anyway. The problem with going into a tournament is whether you want to pay for these items, knowing that they may not be valuable for you every single match. There's probably one that is, but deciding which one? That could be tricky. You can find these items Right Here.

Thank You. New toys Smile I like toys Smile

I'm assuming Gravitas means all enemies and allies gain condition
Slowed(until end of turn round) (Corrected 2 times)
What about effects of "No creature may Fly or Burrow this round"?
How does this affect for example Telekinetic Leap? or Earthglide 5?
(move as with flight...), (burrow up to 5 squares)
Some powers explicitly mention the movement mode... are these modes ignored or is the whole action denied?

Definitely some powerful tools in that set. Mr. Tulip's question though - does this affect forced movement, e.g. the Eye of Shadow's "fade to ..."?

Good Points.

[1] Being slowed doesn't affect forced movement by my reading of the rules.

[2] For move as if, the creatures should determine how a creature with flight (or burrow) would move, and then move accordingly. If there are temporal restraints to those abilities, they are also imposed on the "move as if with..." state as well.

I certainly agree that the limitation on flying and burrowing affects all movement that would be done in such manner.

For usual moves & shifts I take it this simply removes the movement mode: E g a wraith can't fly anymore, so it walks (though it still Phases).

The point that would merit extra clarification is powers that explicitly mention movement mode that is now forbidden.

Can a creature take a TK-leap walking? Can Azurion Earthglide while burrowing is forbidden?
My gut feeling is that there is no allowance in the power description for doing it in any other way than written, i e as with flight or burrowing.

Correct. The requirement for the movement mode is implicit in the power.
This is not the case with a shift, which can be done with any movement mode.

Some very nice new items. I fear that the gravitas item might make Thorgrim (who can use it) and Cattie-Brie (with Sigil) invincible...

´┐╝For Guyeffs Cacophony:
Confusion in the Ranks: Use at the start of any round. Until end of battle, Champions [sic] powers require line of sight from the Champion to the target of their effect. Creatures beyond line of sight of the Champion are unaffected by the power.

What if there are non-creature targets of a champion effect, like walls or terrain? I can't find a specific example off the top of my head, but I suspect there are some.

I know Tried wants the rules to be self-explanatory and not require clarifications, but if we make new items that use non-defined terms ("target of their effect"), then we need clarifications.

Also, how does this item interact with champion powers of the type:
Use when X happens to an ally: Y happens to an enemy.

Does the champion need to see the ally, the enemy, or both? For a specific example:
Dispater, Iron Duke of Hell
Use when a Devil ally becomes bloodied: Each enemy within 3 squares of that ally takes 10 psychic damage.

I think the "target of the effect" is "each enemy within 3 squares," but I'm not sure.

What about champion effects that don't target anything, like:
Use before rolling initiative: You automatically win the next initiative roll.

I assume such a champion ability isn't effected by the item, but I'm not sure.

You appear to already understand it correctly.

This is a bit tricky power

Example: Cyclops (with blindsight) melee hits invisible enemy and nearby King Snurre uses CP: Use when an enemy is hit by a Melee Attack attack: +10 fire Damage on that attack AND push 1 square from attacker

IMO the first part of the CP needs to affect the attacker (bonus to attack damage) and happens as Snurre can see the cyclops.
The push would affect the victim, so it does not happen as Snurre can't see the invisible enemy.

EDIT: Storywise it seems that the CP intent is that the attacker gains bonus damage and the ability to push the victim with the attack in question. As written, the push part of power lags behind the "on that attack" description, and CP's push part would thus be technically a separate effect affecting the victim, not a modifier on the attack itself.

Timing is also tricky... when exactly does the champion need the LOS?
I would suggest that LOS is only checked at the time CP is declared, as that is reasonably straightforward to interpret.

EDIT2: This Item will totally block Graz'zt summoning CP?
LOS to a creature not yet in play can't exist...

[1] The push could (should?) be ruled to take effect because the AND is capitalized, suggesting they are both effects to be added to the same attack.

[2] Yep. Graz'zt is out of luck.
