Lords of Madness for Original Edition beta

I proudly present you the Beta version of Original Edition (OE) Lords of Madness D&D Miniatures expansion set, but, first, let me introduce myself, my revision team and our “modus operandi”. This is the very first time I write here, so you can imagine I am a bit exited!

My name is Flavio Damasco and I am the lead designer of this project. Under the supervision of Peter Scott, I worked really hard with my team and the other friends of the OE project in order to create some balanced and fun miniatures. My team had already collaborated in other revised D&D Miniatures sets such as Player Handbook Heroes 1, Legenary Evils and Dangerous Delves.

We worked this way: first of all we had every single existing stat card ordered by cost in a single huge stack and we studied each of them. With this background material we started creating the Lords of Madness profiles by comparing them to similar costed minis and/or similar class/race/type/ability creatures. But most of all, we took inspiration by the various 3.5 Manuals and Handbooks we collected (around 70-80 volumes) in which we looked for the “true version” of every mini of this set. This method granted quite an accurate result in creating balanced stats. We had a powerful brainstorming among us and we tried to create new and interesting profiles. I can say that this job took more than 60 hours of work for my group only.

After this step, we submitted our product to the other guys of the OE team and their evaluations. After some debates and modifications we all agreed on this beta version.

Summarizing, the main theme of this expansion is the attempt to create new pieces, while sometimes exhuming old and forgotten spells and abilities. For example you will find the “mount” rules are used again! On the other hand you will also discover some “spoilers” of future revised set (take a look at Yeenoghu!). We tried to bring past and future together in this set!

In conclusion: we hope you’ll have a great deal of fun! While we prepare the final version, please, discuss your point of view on the beta version of Lords of Madness stats with us and leave your feedback in the forums. And if you submit your feedback before september 30 2011, we'll take it into account while we make the final release, which is slated for mid-october.

I am really proud of the work you guys have put in and some of the new concepts in there. It nicely allows the game to evolve a bit and draw in some older pieces that we never use... I'm keen to see warbands that can utilise some of these hidden synergies.
I remember spending hours poring over Bifur each time a new set was released, looking for new combinations to use! The team has been keen to reintroduce that excitement - find the mysterious and amazing combos... it's a challenge that's fun!
Have fun! The team has more close to Beta release - if we see lots of debate and discussion it'll fire us up more to get those out quickly!
Oh, Feedback IS WELCOME. Just be gentle - we've put a lot of effort in.

I have not had a chance to review, but I am extremely pleased to see that 1st ed rules have not been forgotten. We still play under the first ed rules. We have made a few mods that we believed were needed, and have been having a great time of it.

I have not had a chance in a very long time to review threads. So, I would imagine that you are going to continue with updating the newer sets in similar fashion. If you need help on this project, I would love to contribute.

One more item, at a glance - liked the layout on the cards. Even the card layout is better than the second ed version. Hah. Really did not care for the new rules when they came out. Played it several times and did not change my opinion much. So, as a huge fan of the original rules, I would again like to help with the release of stats for the remaining sets.

Thanks,

- - Tim

It is awesome to know that the Guild is still working on the Original Edition, and your efforts are very, very much appreciated. I've been slowly growing a small group of 1.0 fans amongst my friends, and it's always cool to be able to direct them to new stat cards for some of the minis they've picked up here. I know of one in particular who will be delighted to have stats for his Volcanic Dragon mini that he's so fond of, especially once they're fully official! Smile

It's very good to see that there are people around that yet play with the original edition rules - like our small group.
We are using some of this cards since it have being released, and there are some good stuff here!
There is some place in the forum where people can discuss and/or make suggestions about the conversion of the cards?

Hello Tried,

Can we please put Lords of Madness Original Edition Stats into the Original Edition section, unless it is still in beta form?

Thanks

I like the article. When I see the title "Lords of Madness for Original Edition beta", I decided to read this article. I think it must be wonderful. Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form? I'm using the same blog platform as yours and I'm having trouble finding one?
