NeonCon 2011 Events!

The DDM Guild will be present at Neoncon 2011, November 3-6 in Las Vegas. You'll find all events the DDM Guild has planned for the show in this announcement. As you might expect, we have events planned over all 4 days. We are continuing to program a good mix of light-hearted romps with a couple of competitive events - a good balance for a fun weekend. We hope to see you all there.

DDM 121 Point Elf Civil War Tournament

Thursday November 3rd at 6 pm.
The first tournament at NeonCon! Bring a legal 121 point warband with a twist: Every creature in your warband must be either Drow or Spider, OR Elf or Beast (8 creature limit per warband).

DDM 200 Point Constructed Tournament

Friday November 4th at 9:30 am.
Bring a legal 200 point tournament for this classic format D&D Miniatures tourney.

Dungeon Run

Friday November 4th at 7pm.
This ~3 hour, sealed event pits up to 8 players per giant map against each other. No need for victory points here. This event is a race to escape with the greatest number of treasure items before the imminent collapse of the dungeon. Seats are limited. (The event sold out at Neoncon).

Limited Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Championship

Saturday November 5th at 9:30 am.
With the announcement by WotC of a new DDM game next year, this could be the final limited championship the DDM Guild organizes! Compete to have your name go down in history! Swiss rounds followed by a top 4 playoff. A special ticket is required for this event.

DDM Community Draft

Saturday November 5th at 8pm
The most popular, and least competitive, Gen Con DDM Event! Each player must bring

  • ONE booster (and a print out of cards, if their set doesn’t have them included); and
  • a prize that you’d like to take home yourself.

This fills up the prize table, which means prizes for all players! Over the years, many strange things have made it onto the prize table, from beautiful repaints to board games to collections of rares miniatures to rare D&D paraphenalia to Jack Daniels, and all have (I assume) found loving homes. We supply the map, did I mention that? Play level is casual!

The Format for this will be Gladiator!

DDM Arena Free for All Event

Sunday November 6th at 9:30 am
Just what it sounds like. One giant map, up to 10 players, and an innovative system to determine initiative in this free for all skirmish combat game. Arena Format - Machiavelli meets Conan!

Arena Free for All is 200? 5 Fig limit?

Do we know when these will go on sale through Neoncon.com?

Also, have you thought about adding a demo of the "new game"? The folks that play this game are likely to be fans of the new game as well.

"With the announcement by WotC of a new DDM game next year, this could be the final limited championship the DDM Guild organizes!"

Why?

Wizards might take back the license that allows the Guild to operate once the new game releases.

I think I'm hosting D&D board games of Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon on Saturday and Sunday. That's my plan at this point anyway. I'm up for the Dungeon Run on Friday though. That's my favorite DDM game.

I think the Guild will still be able to play tournaments of DDM even after the new skirmish game comes out. May not be able to make new official cards and such, but we ought to be able to play with all the great content we've already made. There ought to be a way to make a deal with Wizards to let both games co-exist. After all, they might be similar but they are not any more the same than Heroscape and DDM were. I've been trying to encourage people at Wizards to work With the Guild at every opportunity I've gotten. They'd be fools to alienate their biggest fans of minis games.

Already booked room, flight, car, and registration, and the Neoncon page is still not updated.

Sad

I've been in touch with Doug Dalton, who runs NeonCon.

The delays in going live are in part due to him being traveling at the moment. That said, there are never lines at NeonCon for tickets, because the majority of non-minis events are actually free. For those who've never been to NeonCon, the GM's are volunteers, and do not have their rooms covered by the con, which reduces some of the cost. Its a good system in many ways, but will ultimately limit how large NeonCon is likely to grow.

That said, I love the aspect they are marketing this year.
(the gaming con for adults). Its weird, because this is the con I bring my wife to every year.

Any news regarding the set choice for the Limited Championship?

Looks like I'll be hosting Wrath of Ashardalon on Sunday (misspelled as Eshardalon in the board games list on the site). Hopefully, they will have the advanced prototype of the D&D Skirmish Type Board Game there too.

I'm signing up for the Elves vs Drow game on Thursday and the Dungeon Run on Friday.

So, how did it go? Any new news? What were the good games? Inquiring minds and wanting to know and all that jazz.
