I tried it when the creator first come out with it (a year ago? cannot remember) and it worked quite well. I and several others encouraged him to carry on with the project, but I haven't heard from him/her since. The was some room for improvement, but in general it was very promising.
It is pretty cool. I only wish the little boxes that pop up to show you what is happening would stay longer. I can't read that fast. Otherwise I like it. A new version that uses the up to date rules would be cool. Also if it could be set so that you could play against another human on the internet. It's easier to set up and play than VASSAL.
I hope the guy remembers to clear a few copyright issues before fully committing himself to the project. Adding the card info alone was stretching it a bit already in my mind (though ridiculously useful of course). I sent him an email a long time ago when I first ran into this, reminding him of potential issues, not sure if he has taken heed.
it always better to add PCI Compliance, it provides a lot of security.
I don't know author of "DDM Miniatures by Virgul" or "ddmwarbandtool". But "ddmwarbandtool" is released under MS-PL license. It has card images together with info. So why DDM Miniatures violates but DDM Warband no? DDM Miniatures can simply use published content from DDM Warband under no less restricting license.
Hi, I'm the author of the DDM Warband Tool, found at:
http://www.ddmresources.net/ResourcePages/WarbandTool.aspx (app binaries)
and
http://ddmwarbandtool.codeplex.com/ (source code as well as binaries)
The MS-PL license you refer to is the one at codeplex, and that refers to my source code. Basically, I am sharing the code on the normal basis of use it, copy it, modify it however you like. I'd prefer attribution if you mostly just copy it, but I'm not going to lawyer up if you don't
. Codeplex makes you pick a software license from its list, and MS-PL was one of the shortest so I went with that.
Now, If WOTC wanted to press the point, no doubt they could successfully make the case that my use of all those WOTC images violates some of their copyrights. Perhaps the Guild could make a similar case. In both situations, my tool is allowed to exist due to their benign sufferance, for which I am very grateful.
It will take a while, but I'm excited to try to make a Windows 8 version of the warband tool. It will give me something fun to use as the subject for my first serious Metro style app.
Hope this clears things up.

The Warband Tool is great! Since WOTC has nothing like it that they are trying to sell to people, they should leave it alone. Now, if they keep going with the new Skirmish Type Board Game and try to expand the warbands with some kind of warband tool that is only available to D&D Insiders or something like that, then the great tools like this, DeadSeaShoals, D&D Shoebox, this DDM2 videogame etc. may be at risk and may have to 'lawyer up' and figure out how to avoid being sued.
In my opinion, however, it would be wise of WOTC to leave all these great projects that D&D enthusiasts are doing alone. It's not like any of us are charging anything for these games or tools.
Better yet, WOTC would be even wiser to embrace what we are doing and promote it. D&D has a ton of competition in both the RPG and strategy game market these days from other IPs. They need all the help they can get to stay on top (or get back on top depending on who you talk to. I've met a lot of gamers who have become rather anti-D&D for various reasons).
Hi there, i was the creator of the DDM game on YOYO site, thanks for your interest .
I was looking forward for a version 2. With online support, and maybe somekind of single game dungeon mode.
About the copyright issue, i was a bit worried but i'm not sure what i can do about it. i will check in the futur version if i finally do one...
I will also check the new DDM rules. Maybe it will be easier to code some of them. Have hard time with LOS because you can't only check possibility with the corner of all square ... Anyway thanks for comment.
Hi,
I want to know if guys like you (DDM fans) can be interested in an online android version of DDM , I also download the new DDM game on WOTC the one with card beside dice, i found it interesting, and it's look easier to put the rule in a computer game.
So what i need to know if it's better to focus on Android or PC version , and wich DDM rules to take , the one on ddmguild or the new Dungeon Commander test on WOTC.
Thanks
I'd recommend PC as platform. Or Ipad, since it has a screen big enough to actually play games...
Android got tablets also, like the Xoom one. Maybe Ipad is a better idea but i don't have the knowledge to develop in any framework that work with IOS, so prbably the PC still the way to go. With online support maybe one day i can replace Vassal as the ultimate platform for DDM online
But it's probalby too much work for one person alone to implement all the different rule for all the DDM cards. All i have made is the starter set with a basic AI and it's a lot of work so far
What are you talking about ???
It is a spammer, ignore.
