Ropecon 2011, Finland

Finnish Chapter will again be present Finland's biggest annual gaming convention, Ropecon. Held next weekend (July 29.-31.) in the city of Espoo, the event will gather thousands of visitors.

DDM schedule is:
Basic Melee Attack Fri ARENA 200 Finnish championship
Ranged Attack Sat EPIC 500 Assault
Area Attack Sun SCENARIOS and GLADIATOR + pick-up games

In addition, Reuben, Toby, Justjooaivan and myself will run demos and exhibition games from morning 'til late night, outside the tournament times.

We've had a steady turn-out in our main events (Ropecon, qualifiers, champs, big drafts etc.) through the last 3 years. Hoping for the same this year! Unlike before, we've already had our Constructed champs this year, but I doubt it will have much of an impact in the number of players.

I'm excited about the possibilities the new items bring and also happy for the updated rules (we'll play with the beta unless the official is available).

I'm well on the way to completing 40+ repaints to the prize table.

Only 22h 'til the opening!

Wish you could be there, F.A.! Next year, then.

40+ repaints? Sick! I guess I have to reconsider making actually somewhat competitive teams after all. Man, your repaints tend to be so sweet. I may have to somehow physically block everyone else from attending so I can have them all.

Finnish 200 Arena Champion 2011 is TOBY.

Same dude now holds the crown both in Constructed 200 Assault and Arena! You'll see both trophies in time (I'm in the process of uploading all of the Finnish Chapter pdf's in which I've included photos from tournaments etc.).

We had 7 players in the tournament, all of whom are regulars in our tournament scene. It was interesting to see that everyone was kinda countering something or taking advantage of the recent rule changes/clarifications.

1. TOBY 4-0
Stormrage Blue Dragon, Snig the Axe + Helm of Command, Goblin Skullcleaver (x6); Spiderhaunt Vale

2. JUSTJOOAIVAN 3-1
Yuan-Ti Halfblood Sorcerer (x3), Yuan-Ti Malison, Unicorn; Spiderhaunt Vale

3. MR. TULIP 2-2
Neogi Great Old Master, Succubus (x2), Gnoll Skeleton (x2) + (1) Cursed: Rot Scarab; Spiderhaunt Vale

4. PLASTIC FINN 2-2
Skullcleave Warrior (x4) + (4) Healing Potion, Hobgoblin Marshal; Windswept Precipice

5. JUNTTUR 2-2
Ambush Drake (x3), Snaketongue Cultist, Wild Elf Warsinger; Haunted Quarry

6. REUBEN 2-2
Large Deep Dragon, Yochlol Tempter, Ambush Drake, Drow Assassin, Skeletal Legionnaire; Windswept Precipice

7. ESA 1-3
Huge Fiendish Spider, Foulspawn Seer, Kobold Miner; Crossroads

Games were generally close maybe with the exception of the pounding the Huge Fiendish Spider took. Bands were quite what could be expected, outside of the fresh idea that Mr. Tulip brought. Toby's combination was also innovative and very powerful.

We're running the demo/exhibition desk still (it's Friday night 10.45pm) and will be doing so again tomorrow morning until the Epic 500 tournament at 3 p.m. I'm very much looking forward to what people field now that we have plenty of new-ish options in the epic range.

I'll link to some photos when I get them to the i-nets.

We played EPIC 500. 5 players, familiar faces. Good thing, considering numbers, is that we've had plenty of action at the demo counter.

Matches, again, were close. More than a couple were decided by a margin less than 20 points. As yesterday, participants picked a couple of rounds of repaints afterwards.

RESULTS:

1. JUSTJOOAIVAN 3-0
Draegloth Abomination (x2), Large Deep Dragon, Yochlol Tempter, Drow Demonbinder, Soulknife Infiltrator + Horn of Fog, Duergar Guard (x2), Rot Scarab Swarm; Broken Demongate

2. PLASTIC FINN 2-1
Raistlin Majere (EPIC) + Cloak of Eyes, Tomebound Arcanist + Cloak of Eyes, Hobgoblin Marshal, Warhorse (x2), Skullcleave Warrior (x2), Delver Sergeant, Merchant Guard (x2); Hellspike

3. ESA 1-2
Aboleth Slime Mage (EPIC), Iron Golem Juggernaut, Tiefling Surestrike, Foulspawn Seer, Duergar Guard (x3), Drow Assassin, Kobold Miner; Frostfell Rift

4. MR. TULIP 1-2
Nalfeshnee Tyrant, Ultroloth, Warpriest of Hextor + Zombie Curse Charm, Berbalang, Valenar Commander + Helm of Command, Orc Wardrummer, Fist of Moradin + Ointment of Restoration, Gnome Trickster + Horn of Fog, Merchant Guard, Skeletal Legionnaire; Frostfell Rift

5. TOBY 1-2
Deathpriest of Orcus (x2), Dread Wraith (x3), Death Knight (x2); Teleport Temple

As usual, pleasant times and lots of laughter! Congrats to Justjooaivan! Thank you, everyone!
